10.Iwo Jima:

This battle was the one of first battles that would lead to the fall of Japan. Amrican soldiers took over the island of Iwo Jima, the vicotry led to the symbolic flag raising, which became an emblem of selling war bonds in the United States.

The flag raising helped sell billions of dollars in war bonds which help the american troops

9. Attack on Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor was the day when we declared war on Japan, a few days later nazi germany declared war on the United States. About 2000 men died from the attack and left the U.S. navy crippled, which led to defeats in the first attack on Japan.

8. The Great raid
This POW rescue was in cabtuan POW camp, this was one of the most successful operations in Military history. The battle was more than 8000 japanese soldiers against 35 rangers. Only two rangers died and only 1 pow died.

7. Creation of the Jet engine
The jet engine was created by Germany to counter the allie's air offensive though unsuccessful, it paved the way for avionics in the future. The jet is now the standard engine in both the military and comercial airlines.

6. Creation of the missile
The missile was created by Nazi Germany, they were launched into britain but did not take high casualties. Their design made the orbit of the Sputnik satellite possible and missiles have been used over bombs dropped by aircraft in the war in iraq

THE DICTATORS OF WORLD WAR 2

THE RISE OF THE DICTATORS:

The first years after the first world war saw a kind of political leader- the 20th century dictator. History is full of tyrants and monsters, due to their technologies, they had limited powers. These new dictators used radio communication and broadcasts, to control every aspect of peoples' lives.

THE ITALIAN PIONEER:
The first great dictator to emerge from the ashes of war was a former teacher and journalist named Benito Mussolini. Italy had not benefited from the war, although it had been on the winning side. In the early 1920's, the country was crippled by strikes, and street fighting between extremists political groups and general disorder. Mussolini, leader of the right-wing Fascist party, swept into power in 1922 promising to bring order pride back to the Italian people. With tight control over the media and violent suppression of all opposition, he gave Italians the illusion that the country was becoming a thriving success. But his economic policies failed badly and he began to look for a good solution. Italy, he declared, should have a new Roman empire.

HITLER ENTERS THE STAGE:
Germany had lost the war and the economy was in ruins. The worldwide great Depression brought further misery to a already suffering country from massive unemployment after a decade of raging inflation.
Adolf Hitler, was a former soldier and failed artist. He offered the German people a clear solution to their problems. If they voted him and his Nazi Party, they would make the country great again and destroy the causes of their misfortune. These Hitler as Jews and communists. He came to power in 1933 and immediately began a process that would plunge the world into another war and bring total ruins to his country in the coming years.

THE RED CZAR:
In Russia, the first world war had lead directly to a communist revolution, and the country had been renamed to the Soviet Union. When Lenin, the leader of the revolution, died in 1924, he was replaced by a wily Georgian named Joseph Stalin.
Stalin introduced vast changes to the Soviet Union, pushing through reforms that transformed the country into a powerful industrial nation. But he also had millions of people imprisoned and executed, including many officers of the Russian Army- which became known as the Red Army.
The Russian communist rulers had much in common with the Nazis and Fascists- in their regulation of newspapers, radio, and cinema; the their total control over peoples lives.

Digital Story about Thomas Jefferson

Read the following script about one of our country's most influential Founding Fathers. Notice how the script answers the following questions:

What idea or event connected to this person stands out most to you? [Words of Declaration of Independence]
How does this person's life (ideas, accomplishments, etc) influence your life today? [War in Iraq, Holy Wars near and far]
What do people overlook about this person's life? Is it important? [Contradictions; democracy is an experiment; its success rests on the shoulders of everyday citizens]
How does this person's life help you understand an idea or historical event in greater detail or from a different perspective? [These words were radical for that time and set the course of history to follow]

Find Images
But to create an engaging digital story, you need images. Use Google to search for images that you think would match this script. For example, you'll want an image of the Declaration of Independence that clearly shows the words "We hold these truths to be self-evident."

You can alter the script. Check history and museums websites for images of Jefferson for images. Look for images that are at least 400 X 600 in pixels. Anything smaller will be hard to use in iMovie.

Digital Story Script

Words.

We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In the short history of the United States, these are considered some of the most important words ever penned to paper.

Fifty years after he helped write the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson continued to champion these revolutionary ideas.

In his last letter, written ten days before both he and John Adams died, Jefferson wrote to a friend that he hoped the Declaration would serve as a "signal of the blessings of self-government to an ever evolving world."

I wonder if he would be surprised by how his young nation grew up to help spread democracy to so many parts of the world.

Of the contagious chant of "Revolution" that toppled so many governments. Would he be proud of our forced efforts to bring self-government to the Middle East? Could he have imagined a world where the pursuit of happiness held such diverse meanings to so many people?

Where freedom of religion pitted nation... ...and neighbor against one another?
Liberty and the pursuit of happiness have always been at the expense of others.

Nearly 3000 American troops and 60,000 Iraqi civilians have died in the effort to bring "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" to the land where civilization began.

The contradictions tied to these famous words are as ripe today as they were when Jefferson proclaimed equality for all while prospering from and protecting the institution of slavery.
It would take another two centuries before equality for all in the United States was written into the Constitution. President Johnson conceded that we could no longer maintain the hypocrisy of celebrating the famous phrases of the Founding Fathers while denying their benefits to so many and finally gave teeth to the Civil Rights Act.

I try to remind myself that this country is still very young; that this experiment in democracy is still being tested; that a nation founded on a few radical words can alter the course of history. Thomas Jefferson did not proclaim to have all the answers to the challenges of sustaining an effective democracy. He set the compass of the country pointing in a direction that empowered the individual states to dictate future courses of action.

In the recent state elections, the people exercised their power and swung control of the Congress back to the Democrats. Regardless of your political views, this is a good thing. Democracy still works. The next presidential election marks an historic opportunity. With Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama running for president, our country has evolved to the moment when we will test those deeply charged words of "we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

Will it be finally be self-evident? That a successful democracy depends on the true and accurate representation of ALL its citizens.
